This is Not a Mayan Calendar

First of all, this is an Aztec monument. It can be admired in its glory at the National Anthropology Museum in Mexico City.  Impressive as it is, there is a huge difference between Mayans and Aztecs. Not even a resemblance between 2 civilizations separated from one another by 1,000′s of kms in distance and hundreds of years in time.

Secondly, this is not a calendar. It is the abstract representation of the God-Sun, and the constellations that it covers throughout the year. Sort of an astrology wheel. Its name? The Aztec Solar Stone.

So… please don’t go buying little replicas of this beautiful stone monument thinking it is a mayan thing.
